CTAAB
was established to continue the
Rochester
area’s legacy
of community-wide commitment and cooperation in health care planning and
cost containment. The board
represents a wide range of constituencies who share a common interest in
the community’s total health care system.
CTAAB’s purpose is
to review issues of medical technology, including drugs, procedures and
capital equipment. Following
review, CTAAB assesses and communicates its judgments to payers regarding
health services including,
but not limited to, judgments on whether:
-
applications of
new technology constitute appropriate evidence-based medical practice;
-
novel
applications of existing technology constitute appropriate
evidence-based medical practice;
-
a technology is
investigational, but there is evidence of lifesaving potential;
-
the community
should fund clinical studies of emerging technologies; and
- additional
health service capacity is warranted, taking into account geographic
location and access.
